Hotel and Multi-storey Car Park

There are proposals for a £30m scheme to build a six-storey, 90-bed budget hotel, thought to be a travel lodge, a multi storey car park and additional retail units near the Whiteley Shopping Centre. This will potentially create hundreds of new jobs.

Public transport is limited so the additional car parking is welcome however the local road network around the business parks is unlikely to be able to cope with the potential additional traffic workloads. Car parking demand is already outstripping supply which means some staff and shoppers are parking in residential areas.

Full plans of the proposed expansion were due to go on show at a public exhibition on 12th and 13th of May 2017 but the event has now been delayed while further work on the plans take place. Plans for the exhibition will be publicised and circulated to residents when they are ready for public consultation, likely to be around the end of 2017.

Roads Funding 2017

Whiteley North was approved in 2015 but is now is likely to be delayed because of a stalemate around funding for a crucial highways scheme.
Winchester City Council, developers and the Government risks losing £14 million of a Solent Enterprise Partnership (LEP) funding earmarked for major road improvements in Whiteley because of the lack of agreement between them. The growth fund would have paid to extend Whiteley Way through to Curdridge and to improve Bluebell Way to provide direct access to Whiteley North from Botley.

Highways England say they do not have £6m earmarked and committed to the junction 9 project at present but they are working with Hampshire County Council to see what funding streams are available.

All of highways Englands funding has been committed until 2020 so additional funding would need to be sourced elsewhere. If the Motorway funding is lost then the LEP funding could be lost as well meaning the infrastructure would not be ready before the Whiteley North housing.

The North Whiteley building consortium says a deal is expected to be reached very soon as it has been working with Winchester City Council to concluding the Section 106 legal agreement which secures funding towards the improvement of highways and the provision of new schools, community facilities and other public benefits. These measures are designed to mitigate the impact of the new development.

The roads in the area need to be upgraded with money from the Department of Transport prior to starting Whiteley North as there is already concern from residents about traffic congestion to and from Whiteley Shopping Centre.

Lidl in Whiteley

The supermarket chain Lidl has revealed plans to open an upmarket store at Whiteley. The new specification store is larger than the older generation stores. The 0.6-acre store include an in-store bakery, it will be modern and efficient, offering a light spacious and attractive shopping experience for customers. The proposed Lidl site is just under 2.14 acres and is situated in a prominent position fronting Rookery Avenue to the west of Whiteley Way. The site is previously undeveloped but the principle of development has already been established under allocation policy number S.14 within the Winchester District Local Plan Review 2006. Lidl have exchanged contracts to purchase a site off of Solent Way, Whiteley, subject to grant of planning permission. A public consultation day to outline the plans was held on 15 December at Forum 5, Solent Business Park, Whiteley.

Lidl have now submitted their planning application to Winchester City Council. The application reference is 17/00164/FUL.

You can find full details on the Winchester City Council website.

Please visit the Lidl Download Plans page and Download Reports page where you can find many of the supporting documents that were submitted as part of the planning application.

Hampshire Aerial Photos

Hampshire Aerial Photos provide high quality and affordable alternatives to obtaining aerial photography or filmography. We provide aerial photography services to home owners, site surveyors, estate agents, media, advertisers and events (such as weddings, concerts or festivals). We also support property surveys and inspections of typically inaccessible or dangerous/hazardous areas (such as tall buildings, wind turbines and roofing).

Previously, obtaining aerial images was a job for vans with limited and slow telescopic masts or helicopters with expensive fuel and rental costs, both of which require weeks of planning. Thanks to the technology of UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) we can provide high definition aerial footage at a fraction of the cost of these alternatives. Furthermore, the very size and portable nature of our UAVs mean that we could be on site and ready to fly in a matter of minutes.

A video link between the UAV and ground monitor station allows you to preview the imagery and frame shots perfectly from the ground using our live video screen.

Prior to each flight we conduct a thorough risk assessment for the operation. Approximately 1-2 hours preparation work goes into every flight so we can be sure that the flight is a safe and successful one.

We follow a strict operations manual for which our CAA Permission for Aerial Work is granted on, this ensures all national and local laws are adhered to. All of our pilots are fully qualified and hold BNUC-S (Basic National UAS Certification) qualifications. Our pilots and aircraft are registered with EuroUSC and undergo yearly checks to ensure that appropriate levels of competence and safety are maintained.

We also offer peace of mind in the event of any unexpected incidents with our £2 million public liability insurance cover for each and every flight.

Our chief pilot is also a fully qualified private pilot (for manned aircraft). He has over 5 years experience in the Air Traffic Control industry and boasts a number of qualification including a Masters degree in Safety Assessment in Aviation. He is a associate member of the Association of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems.

When selecting Hampshire Aerial Photos, you can rest assured you are in safe hands and our pilots will ensure the flight is completed safely and give you the results you need.

About Us

Having been born in Hampshire I care about my community and wanted to provide a community website for Whiteley. I wish to see the area prosper in every way including culturally, economically and socially. The green agenda is high at the moment so I wish to promote a strong local economy based on local services, traders and producers. Hopefully this website can enhance the communities quality of life and allow you to precipitate in making Whiteley a better place to live and work in.

The site is written by and for people who live or work in Whiteley. It acts as a community bulletin board and an online news and campaigning service for people who are interested in their neighbourhood. The general comparison I make is with community newsletters - although a website like this this is much quicker, there is no way we could reach this many people with a newsletter.

There is a only one volunteer who writes at the moment drawing on local information from newspapers, councillors, councils, residents, parish council, local businesses, surfing and contributions from people like you. We tend to cover Whiteley and the surrounding area from Fareham, Park Gate, Titchfield, Sarisbury and as far as Winchester. This site is not affiliated to any political group and receives around 3000 - 4000 unique visitors per month, depending upon the range of issues posted and the time of year.

We are always delighted when people comment on the issues raised because without your contributions to the site then the site is stagnant and worthless. Feel free to get in touch any time.
