Larger Whiteley Village

The Whiteley Co-Ownership, developers of the New Whiteley Shopping Centre plan to add a mezzanine floor into the shops in the new Whiteley Shopping Centre. The Fareham Borough Council planning committee fears this extra increase in size could affect trade in Locks Heath and Fareham Centre.

The Locks Heath centre currently serves around 24,000 people, while the new Whiteley centre, after Whiteley North has been built will serve around 12,000 people in the Whiteley community.

The Whiteley Co-Ownership think that the additional mezzanine floor space will give retailers the flexibility they require to trade successfully within a quality high street environment and it will enable Whiteley to respond to the requirements of future retailers.

Fareham councillors dicussed the scheme at a planning meeting in early February 2012.
