Leafy Lane News

Residents of Leafy Lane have observed an increase in the number of cars from the business park, parking in Leafy Lane, during the working day. In excess of 20 cars have been parked in a line at times causing obstructions, hazards and near misses. WCC were approached to combat the problem and double yellow lines were suggested. Although the proposal now could be, single yellow lines, if enough residents respond to a letter from WCC asking for residents views.

Residents of Leafy Lane are also concerned about the increased volumes of traffic using Leafy Lane as Leafy Lane was only designed to cope with around 1000 cars per day. There is also a 20 mph speed limit in place and a 7.5 ton access only limit. According to a Whiteley Parish Council survey (2008), of the residents living in the Leafy Lane area 57% would like to see peak time road closure, 20% no changes to the current arrangements, and 19% permanent closure of the road. However if you take all Whiteley residents into account, around three-quarters of the respondents of the Whiteley Parish Council Survey do not want changes to the current arrangements for Leafy Lane, while 18% would prefer peak time closure of the road.

Residents met with officers from HCC in Novemebr 2008 to again examine proposals for the Leafy Lane area. HCC has been looking at a home zoning schemes to try and return Leafy Lane to a more residential feel. Traffic counts suggest that volumes are around 4600 vehicles per working day and the completion of the Segensworth Roundabout works have not reduced traffic flows as HCC anticipated.

in 2009 a letter was sent to East Whiteley residents inviting comments on the proposed trial of additional trafic calming measures. 60% of residents returned a questionaire of which 49% objected to the trafic calming measures. This represents 30% of the 242 houses consulted. In view of this it has been decided not to proceed with the scheme.
